This is a fantastic opportunity for a Shop Operations Team Manager at our engine plant in Darlington. In this position you will lead a team of 150 operatives, managed through 4 Team Leaders on a 3 shift operation.

This is the perfect position for you if you are motivated by change and have an eye for spotting opportunities for continuous improvement and streamlining production. You need to be a natural people person who proactively encourages team development and leads by example.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Oversee the daily activities of multiple production teams including managing team members, housekeeping, health and safety, and meeting production targets

  • Create and implement initiatives designed to enhance production efficiency and product output to meet forecasting and customer demand

  • Ensure that production targets are achieved on a daily basis whilst maintaining a high standard of quality within budget

  • Maximise departmental performance including; efficiency, production output, labour utilisation, quality, health and safety

  • Work cross functionally to improve safety, productivity, quality and efficiency of operations

  • Promote a safety culture ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

  • Provide guidance and feedback for team members in accomplishing tasks and goals; sets expectations and clarify responsibilities.

  • Encourage professional development in the workforce, acting as a coach and mentor for team members and ensure that all relevant training has been provided.


To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Previous experience from a fast paced, manufacturing environment is essential for this position

  • Experience in delivering LEAN and CI projects to streamline production methods will be an excellent foundation for your success

  • Proven track record of leading large teams to successfully deliver high quality products on time and in budget

  • To be an influencer of change, institutionalizing a culture of simplification and standardization.

  • To be willing to work on a rotational shift pattern (11pm – 7am, 7am – 3pm, 3pm 11pm)

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

A university degree or substantial, relevant experience is required for this role.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary between£40,000 and £45,000 (depending on experience)

  • 8% variable bonus, paid annually

  • 7% pension contributions from Cummins

  • Private health care for you, partner and children under 21

  • 25 days holidays plus stats

  • Shift allowance
