You will received on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.
The role of MetallurgistPlacement Student will be to work with colleagues in the Materials Laboratory to provide metallurgical support to Production, Quality, Engineering and Service groups.
Working within the Quality Department reporting to the Materials Laboratory Supervisor.
Liaise with Quality, Engineering and Production Teams on metallurgical issues.
Carry out metallurgical investigations to help provide root cause failure analysis and drive corrective actions.
Investigate and report on engine component failures to determine if they were caused by metallurgical issues
Support Purchasing/SQI in component approval for resourcing work.
Support the plant with metallurgical production related issues.
Carry out 3rdlevel metallurgical audits on engine components.
Assist the Quality Test and Quality Customer Teams with problem solving relating to Engine Testing and Customer Quality Issues.
The applicant will be workings toward a BSc Degree or equivalent in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering.
General knowledge of physical metallurgy, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy and processes such as steel making, casting, forging, welding and joining etc.
Experience of using a SEM would be beneficial but not mandatory as training will be provided.
The applicant should have sound analytical capabilities and preferably have some practical Laboratory experience, and possess good organisational and communication skills.
The role will provide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to a Materials Engineering role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through your placement year. The following training will be provided;
Training in Corporate systems such as Oracle and familiarisation with other business software (eg Product Lifecycle Management, Metallurgy and Chemistry Work Order System)
Materials Laboratory Practices and procedures.
SEM/EDX operation and interpretation
Engine Appreciation Course
Coaching to enable the development of other business skills.
4 x 1 day workshops through an external training provider: Adapting to Professional Environments, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Team Work, Customer Care.
