Acoustic (noise) Engineer

Location: Lyon, France

About the role:

Being part of the engineering team, you will have a chance to participate in aeraulic and acoustic technical studies and support cross-regional (European) projects and contribute to the improvement of Cummins gensets solutions. You will also be:

  1. Aeraulic modelling

Finding and studying solutions for optimizing ventilation to achieve the required objectives for the operation of one or more generating sets in a room or soundproof enclosure for new buildings/sites or existing premises:

  • Optimisation and sizing of special equipment for buildings;

  • Optimisation of installations, layout, ventilation, flow rate in accordance to architecture specifications;

  • Definition and choice of supplier products (extractors, insufflators, air inlet grilles, ducts, etc.);

  • Calculation of flow rates and pressure drop rate;

  1. Acoustic modelling

Finding noise reduction solutions that technically meet the required objectives and in accordance with the specific constraints linked to the site and the operation of one or more generating set(s) in a soundproof room or enclosure for new buildings/sites or existing premises:

  • Find solutions by simulating several generator sets installations;

  • Checking and following current regulations and specifications;

  • Create calculation notes and/or model the entire project using special software such as Ray Plus, CadnaA or other relevant tools).

  • Calculate and design acoustic solutions: silencers, screens, enclosures, anti-reverberant treatments, etc.

  • Definition and choice of special products (acoustic baffles, sound insulation, acoustic doors, etc.)

  1. Technical calculations
  • Making the design of genset noise installations for buildings and enclosures

  • Running calculation/simulation on the noise to define what would be the outside noise

  • Running calculation/simulation on the pressure drop

  • Defining the right ventilation/noise attenuation equipment (attenuators, screens, acoustic doors, louvers, fans, etc…) to reach the requested noise level of each project

  • Participation is site measurements when needed.

  1. Internal/external communication
  • Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers, noise installation companies and other external partners;

  • Collaboration with suppliers (installer, subcontractor, manufacturer, etc.) and discuss with them the choices envisage during the project execution;

  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders (engineering, design, manufacturing teams) across the European region;

  • Providing support for both pre-sales (upstream influencing) and project execution activities;

Qualifications

About you:

You will ideally have acoustic engineering experience within an acoustic engineering consultancy or automotive/heavy machinery industries, however, if you enjoy and can evidence a high level of attention to detail, resiliency, and strong communication skills along with an interest in Powergen industry and already have technical experience in relevant technical calculations (noise, vibration, acoustic) within an international environment, we’d love to hear from you. Here are some of the other skills and competencies we’d like you to have:

  • BA degree in Engineering or relevant technical discipline with a focus in acoustics.

  • MA and (or) MBA degree in the technical discipline or social discipline is a plus;

  • Extended professional experience in performing acoustic, vibration, noise calculations;

  • Familiarity of acoustic testing, data post-processing, and evaluation within the Powergen industry is a plus;

  • Experience in working with noise prediction software: CadanaA, Ray Plus or other relevant tools;

  • Experience in working with CAD tools: AutoCAD, Revit or other relevant tools;

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, and manage technical projects in the international environment;

  • Strong communication skills with both internal stakeholders and external partners; good interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Fluency in English, as this is our main business language, and French; knowledge of any other European languages is a benefit;
